Get the Gifts: Confirmation

Register for the Emmaus Comfirmation Retreat here.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a sacrament instituted by Christ that completes the gifts received at baptism and strengthens the Christian in living and professing their faith, making them a soldier of Christ. It perpetuates the grace of Pentecost: only after Pentecost were the disciples were empowered to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. So too, through reception of Confirmation one is empowered and “sent” into the world to be a witness for Christ. To find out more about the Sacrament click here.
Teens are encouraged to consider reception of the Sacrament as early as Tenth Grade, although with special permission from the Archbishop, they may receive it at an earlier age (the current norm in the Archdiocese of Seattle is age 16 or older by the time of the ceremony).
Preparation for the sacrament begins at least two years in advance through consistent participation in a catechetical program (either youth nights, religious education classes, Catholic school or an approved home-school program). This means that in order for a teen to be confirmed, they must have participated in a catechetical program for at least two years before Confirmation. Immediate preparation for the sacrament begins in September and continues until the reception of the Sacrament in February or March.
