Parents: without you there would be no youth…you’re awesome!
As parents, you are the first evangelists and primary catechists of your children. We are here to reinforce and provide community reinforcement for you in this important role. Put simply, we want to help you get your family to heaven, and help you form your teens so that they can do the same both now and in their future vocation.
We hope that we can be a ministry that enhances your family life. Here are some ways in which we can work together:
- Connect – Be “in the know” in whatever way works best for you. Please click here to find out how you can connect with us and stay current on what is going on.
- Be active - An important part of this is having parents involved in our youth ministry in some way. Please check out our Volunteer Page to see how you can get involved: whether it is serving on the Core Team, or providing food and helping clean up, every role is essential. We not only want you to know what is going on, we want you to be a part of it!
- Pray! – We covet your prayers for your own children, for our adult leaders and for the other teens we are trying to reach, especially those who have not experienced the love of Christ.
- Be a living example – You can expect that your teens will receive the full truth of the Catholic Church in a loving and appropriate manor. The most significant factor on whether or not they accept these truths will be whether or not they see them lived out at home. If you or your teen have an issue or question about Church teaching, we encourage you to diligently seek out why the Church teaches what she does. Our Explore the Catholic Faith page can help you in this regard. Our clergy and church staff are also here to assist you!
- Encourage – As you plan your young person’s activities, we encourage you to prioritize them by the degree to which they will help them get to heaven. If youth ministry is a high priority for you, chances are, it will be for your teen. We know that sometimes (especially at first) teens need a little “parental authority push” to get involved. We are confident that before long, they will want to be involved.
- Communicate – Be in touch with the adult leaders and director. The more we know, the more we can do what we can to help!
- Spread the Word - Generally, parish youth ministry reaches less than 10% of teens that are registered in a parish. We think that needs to change! We need your help to invite other families: let them know why you think youth ministry is important.
