About the Program

The Parish Missionary Intern program started in 2013 under direction of then Director of Evangelization, Joshua Johnson.  The idea behind the missionary intern program was to approach leadership of youth faith formation programs as a collaboration between parish volunteers and a missionary intern who could facilitate the coordination of all aspects of the respective faith formation program.

The parish’s current Missionary Intern Director, Gabby Herndon, directs all elements of the Parish Missionary Intern program, oversees the development and facilitation of the Youth Faith Formation programs: Ignite High School Group, Sparks Middle School Group, Teen Confirmation Preparation, and Roots Young Adult Group.

Our Purpose

Picture
To WITNESS.
"But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

We model a joyful missionary spirit for the parish through authentically living out of our relationship with Christ;
always ready to give witness to the Holy Spirit.

To DISCIPLE.
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

We build relationships, mentor, and disciple youth and young adults, fostering Christ-center friendships through the parish’s existing faith formation programs.

To EVANGELIZE.
“Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love." Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium (120)

We coordinate and develop the youth and young adult parish programs, in collaboration with adult parish volunteers, focusing on encouraging parish youth and young adults to go out into the local community and invite the un-evangelized into a relationship with Christ.

Who is a Missionary Intern?

Our missionaries are young adults who love Jesus, His Church, and desire to share the Gospel with others, particularly ministering to youth and young adults. Someone qualified to be a missionary intern has experience in parish or youth ministry, leadership, organization, interpersonal communication and relational skills.

What would I do?

Our parish mission is one of Evangelical Catholicism. We desire to answer the call of the Great Commission by forming faithful, intentional disciples of Jesus Christ through the power of the Sacraments and the teachings of the Catholic Church. We are fed through the reverent celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, personal prayer, team prayer, and the study of Sacred Scripture.

The internship provides
valuable spiritual, personal and career growth in a thriving parish for young adults who are discerning their primary vocation, missionary work, and a potential path in youth or lay parish ministry.

Do I chose my Ministry & Apostolate?

About the Parish:

The parish has over 1,350 registered families and dozens of dynamic ministries. It is located in downtown Bremerton, the eighth most "un-churched" city in the country. Bremerton is fourteen miles west of Seattle by ferry, is surrounded by the Puget Sound and within view of the majestic Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascade Mountains to the east. We are also next to the Bremerton Navy Base so we are blessed to get to welcome and journey with military families as they come and go.
After the initial training, you'll discuss and discern with the Missionary Intern Director what programs you will direct. The expectation is that a missionary will coordinate one existing program and serve as a core member in the others. All existing ministries and apostolates have a model of shared responsibility among volunteers.
